NEWS: Study Highlights Association between Poor Response to Ovarian Stimulation and Higher Miscarriage Risk in IVF Cycles

Analyzing data from the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority (HFEA) involving 124,351 IVF pregnancies, a UK study reported that the number of oocytes retrieved is strongly linked to clinical miscarriage rate. The study findings, which suggest the probable association between poor ovarian response and reduction in oocyte quantity and quality, are published in the latest edition of Human Reproduction.

Corifollitropin Alfa May be Safe and Effective for Repetitive Ovarian Stimulation in COS Patients

In order to avoid the first seven of the daily injections of FSH and the hypersensitivity or immune reactions due to this repetitive treatment, a single injection of corifollitropin alfa has been suggested for patients undergoing controlled ovarian stimulation (COS). Now, a multicentered phase III uncontrolled trial has reported that the use of 150 μg corifollitropin alfa in a standard GnRH antagonist protocol is safe and efficient, and has no effect on immunogenicity in normal responders undergoing up to three treatment cycles. Women with High BMI Produce More Follicles and Require Less Gonadotropins During IVF

Obesity adversely affects the reproductive health of a woman as it is known to cause anovulation, menstrual irregularities, and infertility. However, the findings of various studies on the influence of BMI on controlled ovarian hyperstimulation factors, such as quantity of gonadotropin and days of stimulation required, oocyte quality/quantity, maximum level of estradiol, and success of pregnancy, are inconsistent. A recent prospective study reports that women with elevated BMI produce more follicles, and require fewer days of stimulation and gonadotropin during IVF treatment, although no significant effects on pregnancy outcome rates were reported. A team of researchers has developed a breakthrough embryo screening technique termed molecular preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), which uses a PCR-based protocol for analyzing translocations. The new approach, having the potential to identify more viable embryos for transfer, utilizes multiplexed short tandem repeat (STR) markers that are positioned on both segments of the translocated chromosomes during translocation analysis. L-Thyroxin Supplementation Improves IVF Outcome in Women with Subclinical Hypothyroidism
